Well, I've moved...again, this time not to a sublet situation by something a little more permanent. The new place is in Fort Greene in Brooklyn, in a turn of the century house (the one before last--there's even a corridor where horses used to be led from street to stable), of which my new roommate, Emily, and I, occupy the second floor. It's got lots of space, hardwood floors, a nifty chandelier and even a backyard. It's also located but a few blocks from the best block in New York (as voted by Time Out), the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Pratt, Fort Greene Park (the brainchild of neighborhood resident Walt Whitman) and the neighborhood has plenty of cool looking bars, cafes, and restaurants. And happily squeezed between ultrahip/ultrahasid Williamsburgh and quiet, residential Park Slope, it's also only 15 or so minutes to Manhattan.
The address is 83 Vanderbilt Avenue #2 / Brooklyn, NY 11205. So update your records. And visit. In droves. And of course, Roberta, your delicious baked goods are always welcome.

ari. only in the most technical of senses. but i'm sure i can pretend sufficiently well. call me: 917-623-4869.
roberta, don't think i will be unfortunately. a bunch of friends are coming in, and need someone to put them up. too bad too, since i'm freezing me toes off!
ari, the problem is that all i have are californian socks (actually probably chinese or pakistani socks) which are definitely NOT warm...but you'll see what i mean someday soon. on that note...
more book recommendations:
1) David Denby, The Great Books. The New Yorker's film critic returns to Columbia after 30 (i think) years to retake the two major courses of the Core Curriculum, Literature Humanities and Contemporary Civilization. Really good way to get a feel for what it's like the first two years.
2) McCaughey, Robert. Stand, Columbia! A history of the school from 1754-2004. Lots of good stuff on the '68 campus occupation, etc.
i'll send you more ideas when i think of them. the first book you'll probably be able to get at any B&N but the second you'd probably have to order online (and if you have to choose, Denby's is definitely the way to go.)
