Next Wednesday, I start my new job teaching "Western Civilization" to the freshman of York College in Jamaica, Queens. The syllabus: the Bible (Genesis, Job, Mark), Homer, Plato, Augustine, Dante, Shakespeare, Luther, Locke, Newton, Kant, Darwin, Einstein, Freud. Will dutifully report my experiences from "the other side of the desk," as Dad puts it, next week. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
