San Diego Fires

Hopefully you guys aren't too close to any of the orange county area fires. As for my roomates and I in San Diego, we were evacuated last night at about ten thirty--a police officer knocked on our door and told us we had half an hour to leave. They are also doing "reverse 911 calls" which were devised after the Cedar Fire four years ago where they call your house phone and tell you to leave but since we dont have a house phone that wasn't an option for us. We had spent the entire day packing our cars; I took Ari's painting, my quilt from Berta, Grandma, and Fern, about a hundred polaroids, books I wouldn't be able to replace, my guitar, and Lucinda (the head). We also put Stephen's turtle in a bucket of water. I spent the night, along with my friends Sarah and roomie Raul, at a friend's house in Linda Vista which is about twenty minutes south of Mira Mesa. The 15 is closed by my house as well as the entire side of Mira Mesa east of our street. Evacuation sites include Del Mar Fairgrounds which is also taking in horses and pets, Mira Mesa High School, and Qualcomm Stadium which is currently housing more than 5000 people. In all the news sources say that more than a quarter million people have been evacuated. At least 600 homes and businesses have been destroyed. We know four people who have lost their homes and a few more whose homes are in the danger zone for the next few days. Hopefully our home will be safe! My roomate Ian's Starbucks near the Miramar base (also evacuated) is the only Starbucks open in a twenty mile radius and they're sending out coffee to the local shelters.

Well that's all I can think of. We've been listening to 1070 and watching local news channels non-stop since yesterday morning. Hopefully they'll let us back into the nieghborhood soon.
