Hanukka, the correct spelling

Since Israeli newspapers spell the upcoming holiday with an "h" and not the wretched "ch" I believe it can be authortatively stated that the correct spelling is "Hanukka." :-P

More interesting (and possibly less controversial) is the linked article's position (it's an op-ed). Basically the author is pointing out how wierd it is that Hanukkah has--for many Jews--become the "Jewish Christmas" when the whole point of the holiday is the sucessful rejection of Helenization. I liked the last two paragraphs best:

In the 20th century the Jewish nation's grand task was to resist the physical assaults it faced, first in Europe, then in the Middle East. The fact that last century's challenge of physical survival ended in calamity, should make every concerned Jew reflect - not only about existential threats - over this century's spiritual and demographic challenges.

And no time would be better for such reflection than Hanukka, when we celebrate the Hasmoneans' resolute assertion of their sovereignty, heritage and dignity.
