Premptive Strike?

I was wondering what peoples thoughts are on the Iranian situation. With the President of Iran saying Israel should be "swept of the Earth" or "relocated to Europe" and the are close to being a nuclear country, should Israel stike at the Iranian Nuclear facilities before they become operative?
A difficult question that defines the word dilemna. I think the Israelis should strike if World pressure cannot make the Iranians stand down. I think Iran with nuclear capibilities poses a serious lethal threat to Israel.

A seriously lethal threat to Israel! I think the Iranians are trying to provoke WW-III, with their rhetoric and provocation towards Israel.

i used this quote on these pages once before. it bears repeating here. i would also reccomend the reading of timmermans book, 'countdown to crisis.'

"The use of an atomic bomb against Israel would destroy Israel completely. While the same against the world of Islam only would cause damages. Such a scenario is not inconceivable."
--Ali Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani.

this quote speaks directly to your question, rob. the real problem is that in order to destroy israel the iranians do not have to develop precise targetting technology. if israel sent ten atomic bombs to iran and took out its ten largest cities, iran would still be there. only one nuke proximate to tel aviv would probably destroy israel. the nuke would take out all of israels ability to communicate within israel and the world. this not only includes telecomunications but computer as well. it would then be easier to invaded israel with conventional forces.

secondarily it would not be necessary for iran to target israel from iran.

for all we know a rocket delivery system exists within hezbollah controlled lebanon or maybe syria, as we speak. they may not have the warhead in lebanon or syria but adding it to a pre-existing delivery system may well be in place.

your question is of grave concern. robertas response capsulizes the intent of radical islamo-fascists.

I think Iran is trying to goad Israel into a unilateral preemptive strike, which from a political standpoint, is the absolute worst possible scenario. It will put the US and many Western countries in a bad position of having to endorse a preemptive strike on an Arab country. With the current state of politics in the US I think such a situation could be dicey. Hugh Hewitt basically thinks the same thing. As does Mark Steyn.

IsraPundit is a good source for "on the ground" views about what is going on in Israel right now.
